Because that’s exactly what I said when I came home and found out it wasn’t one of us.
That’s the sad way that things have changed in the world today post 9/11.
Actually tell a lie, it could still get worse. He could be a convert…

quite weird because this morning he was described as “asian”…I took a walk into town and lot of people were talking about it. Anyway, all of a sudden some women saw me and start talking about this wife swap programme from tv…that apparently had a muslim woman in…
Its like their lives aren’t complete without pointing the finger at a Muslim…
This morning when i was watching sky news, they interviewed some muslim brother at the campus masjid. Got to admit, thats when i thought “O Oh” :p

If this guy turns out to be Muslim, I bet the media will make sure the whole world know it.
If he’s not, I bet whatever religion he follows will hardly even be mentioned.

assalaamoalaikum
Was in the newspaper today that he had the words Ismail Ax written on his arm in red ink which refers to the son of sacrifice. This apparently suggests he might have been Muslim!!
Knew it was gonna happen somehow eh?

I think the sad thing is, Muslim or not Muslim, how such people can exhibit problems, maybe even cries for help, and onlookers only take a few steps, if any at all. It’s like these desperate people have fallen down a well, and instead of throwing them a rope, we throw them bits of thread.
And it’s not the first time such a tragedy has happened. The Columbine tragedy still rings in American’s ears.
And it happens here, albeit not neccessarily with guns. And it is sad. And depression and loneliness affect Muslim youth too. And sometimes in their despair, they kill themselves slowly and painfully without anyone showing an ounce of concern. And the purpose of the Ummah is to stop this from occuring and spiralling out of control like it has begun to do in so many places. As Muslims, I think we really have to make sure our youth don’t go through such self-destruction, and we have to be more mindful, more conscious and more concerned about this problem.
And of course, make plenty of du’aa to Allah (swt).

Until the news came out that the gunman was Korean, I was thinking that they’re most likely going to say that a Muslim extremist/”terrorist” did it. Whenever I read an article about the incident on BBC, I’d look for anything that would hint to Muslims. It’s sad, I know, and just like you said this is all post 9/11 feelings and fears. Alhamdulillaah we were saved this time. May Allaah swt keep Muslims away from such evil acts, aameen.

As-salaamu ‘alaikum:
As a Muslim, I was also very relieved that this idiot maniac turned out to not be a Muslim responsible for this atrocious, evil massacre, not that the bigoted usual suspect Islamiphobes weren’t initially, and probably still are trying to say this guy was possibly a revert or even “inspired” by Muslims.
However, and let’s be honest, I’m sure that there are some Muslims out there, of course a very small minority (Allahu ‘alim) that were really hoping that IT WAS a Muslim responsible for this evil, despicable act. Look at some of the brothers and sisters that go on and on about how there are no noncombatant (civilian) kuffar today, especially in America, whose blood and wealth are protected by any security agreements or covenants from Muslims. And to them pretty much any noncombatant kuffar killed anywhere in the world are considered as acts of so-called “jihad,” subhanAllah. Anybody disagree?
May Allah (swt) guide us all. Ameen
