Quick question, if a brother (A) is praying his fard salaat on his own and another brother (B) then turns up (one rakaat later) can brother (A) automatically lead the prayer for both even if he started off doing his individual prayer?

Yes that’s fine insha’Allah. The second brother will stand next to him on his right hand side and they’ll pray in congregation.
