This is dedicated to all you good Springboks out there. It made me laugh out loud in my hotel, so no wonder it came to mind during the conference.
Disclaimer: I’m not to be held responsible for General Saab’s (music-accompanied) dabkah right at the end of the advert, which is pretty poor. I think he needs some tips from our man on the scene Sheikh Obeikan…

Re: Waking for Fajr.
Assalaamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah,
Sorry to interrupt the topic… I hope it’s not minded; I haven’t watched the video either – I can’t watch it at the moment…
Anyway I read on a previous thread/post about some people/someone having difficulty in waking for the Fajr salaah, and thought I might mention that I have a suggestion/solution that might work for you – insha’Allah!
What is it?
- Sleep on the floor!
Take/bring your pillow with you if you want, just for neck support or something and if you don’t like the idea of lying directly on the floor then lay a bed sheet down or something similar and if you’re worried about getting cold then cover yourself with a bedsheet also. Don’t get too comfy though, so make sure they are light like bedsheets and not comfortable like duvets.
Also, if you ever over-did it at supper time (over-ate that is) – which can, it has been said, be detrimental to one’s waking up for Fajr time – then, again, sleeping on the floor can/might help you counter-act that insha’Allah. And maybe in this scenario, make it as un-comfortable as possible, that is, don’t take your pillow with you.
I know someone who does this and she reckons it’s much more reliable then other methods (i.e. alarm clock, alarm clockS, every night all-nighters). This is only a suggestion, it might or might not work for you. If you’re able to stay awake the whole night up till Fajr time then Alhamdulillah but if you think you really need at least an hour/half-hour or so (‘power-sleep’ is that what it’s called?) lest you fall asleep just before Fajr salaah starts or in the middle of actually praying or you fear you might over-sleep due to getting too comfortable then, this is an idea/possible solution for you if Allah wills.
Also: make sure you don’t harm yourself if you try this!
May Allah make make easy for us our affairs and forgive our shortcomings.
All the best and I hope this helps – if anything! (You might actually end up enjoying this practice and give up your bed!)
PS: Sleep light; don’t let the floor bugs bite!!
(ahahahaha
sorry.)
Interruption over.

Salaams, I’m another of those showing gratitude for the SA visit. I hope you will come back again some time and give us another of those talks.
I wanted to know what you thought of the Ummah in SA?
I think a few people came to conference with pushing agendas across, especially with the questions they asked Shayk Salman but he handled it in a diplomatic and sensible manner.
I also like the way you handled the questions, especially ‘Ask King Abdullah’.

Salaam.
Can you give us a bit more information about this conference that took place in SA? What was the topic? Are there any recordings available?

Salaamu alaikum Iqra.
The conference was called From Madeenah to the Millennium: The Relevance of the Life and Teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wassallam within a Contemporary Context. It featured Abu Eesa, Shaykh Salman Al-Awdah and Riad Ouarzazi as well as two local participants (none of these were featured via video link up, they were all present)
It was hosted by ILM-SA, and in sha Allah we will be making the DVDs available for sale soon, on a pre-order basis.
If you want more information about pre-ordering send a mail with the subject line ”FMTTM DVD” to us at ilm.southafrica@gmail.com
If you have any other questions, feel free to direct them to us at the above address.
wassalaam
